Glimmering with wrapping paper and gold bows the gifts looked splendid. They were organized beautifully under a Christmas tree with all the colors of Christmas on full display. They were so appealing that my daughter Lydia couldn\u2019t help but pick one up and shake it! Nothing rattled inside but air. The box was light and empty. The boxes contained all of the fanfare and charm of Christmas but inside they had no value and meaning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In numerous ways these presents represent what Christmas is for many today. Christmas trees, cookies, lights, manager scenes, cards, programs and carols\u2026. But sometimes we miss the point. Sometimes all of that masks the true meaning of Christmas. Sometimes we aren\u2019t able to find inside of us the vibrant, life changing gift of Immanuel, God with us. That\u2019s the true gift of Christmas.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amidst the hustle and bustle of Christmas be reminded this year to do these 3 things:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Pause<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the first Christmas there wasn\u2019t room for Jesus at the Inn. (Luke 2) Don\u2019t let the same be true this year. Pausing is so simple but so tough during a season of activity and celebration. Set limitations, reserve time, carve out space to break from the commotion of the season and be motionless before the Lord. The problem isn\u2019t that you don\u2019t have room for Jesus, it\u2019s that you haven\u2019t made room for Jesus. Pause and give Jesus the room this year to reveal to you the beauty and significance of the season.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Reflect<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflect on what Christmas is about:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Christmas is about giving<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. John 3:16 says God gave His only Son for all to have eternal life. Christmas remembers Jesus\u2019s birth \u2013 the greatest gift ever given. Any gift we give in love is a reflection of our Creator who first gave to us.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Christmas is about loved ones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Family is important to God. God gave Jesus a mother and father who raised Him and loved Him. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celebrating the value of family and friendship at Christmas time is a reflection of that first Christmas night when Jesus came to the earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Christmas is about kindness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Ephesians 4:32 talks about being kind, tenderhearted and forgiving to one another. Christmas is a season of caring, serving, remembering and loving others like Jesus loved us.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Christmas is about Jesus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We see Jesus everywhere on Christmas \u2013 on wrapping paper, in cards, and in Christmas carols but don\u2019t miss the true meaning of it all. Reflect on the truth that Jesus was given as the Savior of the world. God in flesh as Immanuel and King!\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>Wonder<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be in awe of Jesus this Christmas. Read Luke 2 and wonder about the angels who filled the sky with song. Wonder about the star that radiated brilliant light in the heavens. Wonder about the moment the shepherds were blinded by the glory of the Lord around them. Wonder about the magi from the east \u2013 who were no doubt respected leaders \u2013 following a star to kneel down and worship a baby. Wonder about the virgin birth or the celebration in the stable that evening. Simply, wonder, be in awe and worship Jesus.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Make the gift meaningful<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try something different this year. Take a pause, and intentionally spend time reflecting in reverence and wonder. Don\u2019t let the miracle of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">real <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christmas story slip away this season. The gift of Christmas is more than a fancy box with a gold bow with nothing inside. The gift of Christmas is life, love and eternity. Go to your Christmas parties and enjoy an extra cup of hot cocoa, but don\u2019t forget to worship and include the King of Kings, Immanuel God with us, this Christmas season. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-reading-box-container reading-box-container-1\" style=\"--awb-title-color:#333333;--awb-margin-top:0px;--awb-margin-bottom:45px;\"><div class=\"reading-box reading-box-center\" style=\"background-color:#f6f6f6;border-width:1px;border-color:#f6f6f6;border-top-width:3px;border-top-color:var(--primary_color);border-style:solid;\"><div class=\"reading-box-additional\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growth Point<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to make Christmas more than an empty gift this year take time to pause, reflect and wonder at Jesus\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scripture Point<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read Matthew 1:21-23. Reflect on the meaning of Immanuel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Action Point:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pause, Reflect and Wonder at Jesus. How will you make that happen this week?
