For generations the Israelites longed for an earthly king. A man who would rule on an earthly throne providing for their physical and material needs. However, that wasn’t God’s plan. While God gave them land and men to govern over them, His intention was always that their hope of kingship would be in Him.

Our enthusiasm for Jesus should not be for what He gives or in how we think He should act but in who He is.
