We were a little confused when we received a report from one church explaining that a man had decided to “wed his wife.” But it’s a common scenario: many couples have never formally married because they simply can’t afford to. That leaves wives in a precarious situation—they can be abandoned for any reason at any time with no recourse. Couples with no legal marriage can also be looked down on by their neighbors. Yet God has given Deliverance Church Uganda the opportunity to reach out to these couples. They’ve been studying TCT and learning that God wants them to show love to their neighbors.

A group of women from Deliverance Church went to visit a family in their village after one of their children died. They saw first hand how poor the family was, so they came back a second time with some simple necessities like plates, drinking cups, clothes, and a bit of money. As they talked and prayed with the mother and father, the couple expressed a desire to sanctify their marriage. So the church pooled their resources to help them have a ceremony and celebration. The whole village was shocked at this turn of events, and their neighbors—proclaiming the marriage a miracle—began to fellowship with Deliverance Church.

There was another group of women from Deliverance Church whose husbands were non-Christians. Many of the women experienced abuse and mistreatment at home. They decided that God wanted them to show His love to their husbands. They invited all the husbands of church members—both Christians and non-Christians—to a “thanksgiving party.” The women prepared a feast and also presented gifts to their husbands to show them love and honor. One man, Mr. Bojjo, was so convicted by this show of love that he publicly confessed to frequently getting drunk and beating his wife and children, asked to receive Christ, and proclaimed his intention to marry his wife. The church pledged to help with the costs, and in March the wedding took place.

Join us in thanking God for bringing healing to families through simple Acts of Love, and in praying for many more marriages to be transformed.
